MIDORI MITAMURA

Mr.Tamesaburo FURUKAWA is known as the founder of the Herald Group, which has contributed to the development of the film industry since before World War II. In this installation, the theme music of Jean-Luc Godard's "Contempt," which was distributed by Nippon Herald Pictures in 1964, the year of the artist's birth, is played, and the silhouette of Tamesaburo’s walking sometimes reveals its outline and shines. Sixty years ago, when the film was distributed, Tamesaburo would have seen the beautiful light in the film and heard the music. He may also be watching the same light which we see in this place.

古川爲三郎氏は、戦前から映画産業の発展に寄与してきたヘラルドグループの創業者として知られる。
本作品では、作者の生まれた1964 年に同社から配給された、ジャン・リュック・ゴダールの『軽蔑』のテーマ曲が流れ、在りし日の爲三郎氏が歩く姿を捉えたシルエットが、時おり輪郭を現して光る。配給された60年前、氏も劇中の美しい光を目にし、この音楽を耳にしたであろう。その目に映っていた光と景色に私たちの記憶が繋がっていく。
主人(あるじ)も再び、この場所で私たちと同じ光を観ているかもしれない。
