For this exhibition, Mitamura spent a month in Nishijin prior to the opening, conducting research while creating her work. In a former longhouse once used as a textile workshop, she presented an installation interweaving images drawn from the everyday scenery of Nishijin with fragments of memory embedded in the space.
Facing the city with fresh eyes, she worked patiently day by day—like weaving a loom—through constant trial and error, to create the installation.
本展のために、三田村は事前に1ヶ月を西陣で過ごし、リサーチを重ねながら作品を制作しました。元は織物の作業場だった長屋の空間に、西陣の日常の風景から見出したイメージと、この場所に宿る記憶の断片を織り交ぜたインスタレーションを展示しました。
新鮮な気持ちで京都のまちと向き合い、日々試行錯誤しながら、一歩一歩、機を織るように根気よく制作されたインスタレーションです。
Unseen Three Portraits
This room, its walls lined with books from floor to ceiling, was once a workshop where looms wove fabric. Here, the unseen activities of the past, the life of someone present now, and my own thirty days in this place quietly intersect.
The bookshelves stand as portraits of people themselves. The loom-like structure evokes the human activities that once took place here. And the gaze that takes them in is my own.
In this space, I have gently projected portraits without physical presence—three lives, each living in a different time.
見えない三つのポートレート
一面にぎっしりと本が並ぶこの部屋は、かつて機が織られていた工房でした。目には見えない過去の営みと、今ここにいる誰かの人生、そして私自身の30日の時間が、この場所で静かに交差しています。
本棚は人そのものを、機織り機のようなそれは、かつてそこに在ったであろう人の営みを、そしてそれを眺める視点は私自身を 。
それぞれに違った時間を生きる者たちの、姿不在のポートレートを、私はこの空間にそっと映し出してみました。
